Description

What is Acitretin for:

It is practiced to treat severe psoriasis.

How does Acitretin work:

Acitretin is in a class of medications called retinoids. It reduces the abnormal growth of skin cells that causes red, thickened, or scaly skin.

How should Acitretin be used:

It is usually taken already a day with food. Take it around equal time every day. It manages psoriasis but does not cure it. It may take 2-3 months before you feel the full benefit. Continue to take the drug even if you feel well. Do not stop it out, talking to your doctor.

Common side effects of Acitretin :

High cholesterol level; High triglyceride level; Mouth irritation or cuts; Nose irritation; Skin irritation; Eye irritation; Hair loss

What do I do if I miss a dose?

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to your next dose, skip the missed dose, and go back to your average time. Do not take two doses at the same time or extra doses.

What precautions should I take when taking Acitretin :

Do not take the medication if you had an allergic reaction to the medication in the past. Stop taking this drug and seek crisis medical attention if you undergo an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; rash; wheezing; itching; closing your gullet; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives).

When do I need to seek medical help?

Seek advice if you think there was an excess or signs of a terrible effect on the drug. These include wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue or gray skin color, seizures, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Seek help is a side effect or health problem is not better, or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Acitretin with other medicines:

Do not take methotrexate or tetracycline antibiotics while taking this drug. Tell your doctor about all medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal materials you are taking.

Are there any food restrictions

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue with your regular diet.

How do I store Acitretin :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. – Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Pregnancy Category

Category X: Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities. There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience. The risks involved in the use of the drug in pregnant women outweigh the potential benefits.
